EST. 1963 · EAST TULSA
Gills opened on the east side of Tulsa in 1963 — long before 81st Street got a mall, long before the highway widened, and long before anyone used the word "barbershop" as a marketing category. The chairs stayed full because the cuts were good. That's still the operating model.
Today the shop runs out of suite I at 8303 East 81st, six days a week with a closed Wednesday in the middle. The menu is short and old-school: even cuts, fades, beard work, hot-towel and straight-razor shaves, the charcoal face mask most shops don't carry anymore. Walk-ins are welcome whenever a chair is open.
The framed price list on the back wall has been there long enough to look like part of the building. The barber pole is the same shape it's been since the year the shop opened. The clientele is multigenerational. None of that is the marketing — it's just what's true.
